Korda storms to victory
Petr Korda, the 1998 Australian Open champion, produced another level of tennis to annihilate the 1991 Wimbledon champion, Michael Stich, in the final of the Honda Challenge at the Royal Albert Hall. In the process the delighted Czech realised a long held ambition of winning a title in Britain, and, more importantly, the title of what he describes as, ‘the little Wimbledon’. Day of the underdog
The opening round of the Hastings Direct Tour at Nottingham saw a number of underdogs produce match winning performances, namely, in the women’s singles, qualifiers Janice Torr of Essex, Nottinghamshire’s Jenny Budden and Yorkshires’ Lauren Dossor, plus, in the men’s draw, lucky loser Alex Halsey of Northamptonshire and Suffolk’s qualifier, Steven Lockwood. Janes wins in Hull
Amanda Janes upset Lucie Ahl 5-7 7-6 (7-2) 6-0 in today's Hastings Direct Tour final in Hull, securing her most important win since she came back to tennis this year. "It was certainly my best win since I started again," said Janes afterwards. Picture and report by Rob Eyton-Jones.
